Morrow Manor: Building Brighter Tomorrows
I would like to take a moment to talk about a cause that I find very pressing within our community. In Kitsap County, there is a domestic violence 911 call every 90 minutes; domestic violence is also one of the leading causes of homelessness in our area.
Housing, advocacy service providers, and domestic abuse shelters have identified that those who have left their homes due to domestic violence are much more likely to be successful if they have access to long term housing. Unfortunately, many emergency shelters are unable to provide long term housing as they simply cannot accommodate the sheer number of individuals affected by domestic violence for longer time periods.
Morrow Manor is the region's first “longer” term shelter which allows those affected by domestic violence a place to call home for up to 6 years. Morrow Manor’s goals are to provide safe, supportive, long-term affordable housing to help empower victims of domestic violence by offering them a place to call home.
My wife Suzy and I are very proud to support this cause as it is truly an important issue to address within our community. I’m a new member of the Rotary Club of Poulsbo-North Kitsap which has been heavily involved in the development of Morrow Manor; In 2014 members overwhelmingly voted to move forward and create Morrow Manor. An anonymous member of the Rotary Club donated the property, 2.4 acres, on which Morrow Manor is being developed.
